Stop… Thief!

by Brett Fuller

Have you ever unintentionally offended someone? In the book of Malachi, the nation of Israel had being practicing religion as they were accustomed, but the substance of their worship had long since gone. All that was left was the form.

In chapter 3:8 God attempts to wake them from their religious stupor by saying, “Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ (God says) In tithes and offerings.”

Israel’s kleptomania was sad, but equally so was was their incognizance of their wrongdoing! Wow! That’s pretty amazing considering how clear and repetitive the scriptures are on the issue of tithing.

How could they have missed/forgotten such a vital aspect of their compliance? Their absent mindedness probably occurred because they reading His Word and allowed their minimalist traditions to substitute for their obedience.

Today, don’t let the form of your religion substitute for the substance. Develop your relationship with God through His Word. Love it. Read it. Obey Him. If you do, you will reduce the number of times you unintentionally offend Him.
